Defensive Zone The portion of the ice between the blue lines and the end boards that contains the goal the player defends.

Goals Against The total goals allowed by a goaltender while he is on the ice. This includes awarded goals.

Goal Differential Goal differential is the number of goals a team scores when the goalie is on the ice (Goals For, or GF) minus the number of goals allowed (GA), or GF - GA = GD. Please note, goals scored into an empty net do not count against the goaltender that was pulled. As a result, the league average goal differential may be above zero.

Goal diff per 60 Goal differential is the number of goals a team scores when the goalie is on the ice minus the number of goals allowed, measured in 60-minute increments, calculated by (GF – GA)*60/time on ice.

Goals for per 60 The number of goals scored by the goaltender’s team, while he is on the ice. Measured in 60-minute increments, calculated by GF*60/time on ice.

High-Danger The area within 29 feet of the center of the goal and bound on both sides by an imaginary line drawn from the faceoff dot to 2 feet outside the goalpost.

High-Danger Save % Saves made divided by total shots on goal that are shot from the area within 29 feet of the center of the goal and bound on both sides by an imaginary line drawn from the faceoff dot to 2 feet outside the goalpost.

High-Danger Shooting % Goals scored divided by total shots on goal that are shot from the area within 29 feet of the center of the goal and bound on both sides by an imaginary line drawn from the faceoff dot to 2 feet outside the goalpost

Long-Range The area more than 43 feet of the center of the goal while still inside the offensive zone, and bound on both sides by an imaginary line drawn from the faceoff dot to 2 feet outside the goalpost.

Long-Range Save % Saves made divided by total shots on goal that are shot from the area more than 43 feet of the center of the goal while still inside the offensive zone, and bound on both sides by an imaginary line drawn from the faceoff dot to 2 feet outside the goalpost.

Neutral Zone The portion of the ice between the blue lines.

Offensive Zone The portion of the ice between the blue lines and the end boards that contains the goal the player attacks.

Per 60 Stats that are reported on a "per 60" scale are rate stats, expressing how many times an event happens per sixty minutes of that player's ice time. This rate is calculated by getting the player's per-minute rate and then normalizing it to a full game's length. For teams, the value is the average of each player's individual "per 60" stat.

Percentile When the NHL uses percentiles to rank players, the league uses the exclusive definition. That means that the value to be ranked is better than a given percentage of players. For example, if a player’s maximum shot speed is in the 95th percentile, then 95% of maximum shot speeds by other players fall below the player being described. Note that percentiles below the 50th are not displayed. NOTE: Percentile values shown on NHL EDGE rank players among all skaters or among all goalies.

Shooting % The percentage of shots on goal that go in the net, calculated as goals divided by shots on goal. Shooting percentage does not take missed shots or blocked shots into consideration, only shots that were saved by the goalie or scored a goal.

Shot Quantity Total shots are the number of shots on goal taken by a player. Attempts blocked and missed shots are not included. Shots are also called shots on goal, or SOG.

Speed Bursts Once a player sustains a speed over 18 MPH, he is in a burst. That burst continues until his speed drops below 16 MPH. The speed associated with each burst is the maximum speed the player reaches during that window.
